Gun Nailing of Framing Anchors and Straps

At recent inspections, the Professional Certification Group has noticed that the standard of gun nailing of metal connectors has deteriorated.

Gun nailing of all metal connectors should be nailed off in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications (not as per AS1684).

The issues we’ve identified include:

• Inadequate distance from pre-punched holes
• Inadequate edge distances
• Close groupings of nails
• Too many nails

Where we identify these issues, we will deem the work defective and require remedial work to fix the problem.

If the problem continues, we may find that QBCC may again ban the use of nail guns for nailing metal connectors.
